This patch fixes the i386 sa_restorer field initialization for sigaction
syscall for kernel with vDSO. As described in bug report, i386 Linux
(and compat on x86_64) interprets SA_RESTORER clear with nonzero
sa_restorer as a request for stack switching if the SS segment is 'funny'.
This means that anything that tries to mix glibc's signal handling with
segmentation (for instance through modify_ldt syscall) is randomly broken
depending on what values lands in sa_restorer.
The testcase added is based on Linux test tools/testing/selftests/x86/ldt_gdt.c,
more specifically in do_multicpu_tests function. The main changes are:
- C11 atomics instead of plain access.
- Remove x86_64 support which simplifies the syscall handling and fallbacks.
- Replicate only the test required to trigger the issue.
Checked on i686-linux-gnu.
[BZ #21269]
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/Makefile (tests): Add tst-bz21269.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/sigaction.c (SET_SA_RESTORER): Clear
sa_restorer for vDSO case.
* sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/tst-bz21269.c: New file.

As noted in [1], divdi3 object is only exported in a handful ABIs
(i386, m68k, powerpc32, s390-32, and ia64), however it is built
for all current architectures regardless.
This patch refact the make rules for this object to so only the
aforementioned architectures that actually require it builds it.
Also, to avoid internal PLT calls to the exported symbol from the
module, glibc uses an internal header (symbol-hacks.h) which is
unrequired (and in fact breaks the build for architectures that
intend to get symbol definitions from libgcc.a). The patch also
changes it to create its own header (divdi3-symbol-hacks.h) and
adjust the architectures that require it accordingly.
I checked the build/check (with run-built-tests=no) on the
following architectures (which I think must cover all supported
ABI/builds) using GCC 6.3:
aarch64-linux-gnu
alpha-linux-gnu
arm-linux-gnueabihf
hppa-linux-gnu
ia64-linux-gnu
m68k-linux-gnu

tilegx-linux-gnu
tilegx-linux-gnu-32
tilepro-linux-gnu

I only saw one regression on sparcv9-linux-gnu (extra PLT call to

build SH with GCC 7.0.1 (without any regression from c89721e25d).

Commit 6b1df8b27f fixed the -OS build issue on i386 (BZ#20729) by
expliciting disabling frame pointer (-fomit-frame-pointer) on the
faulty objects. Although it does fix the issue, it is a subpar
workaround that adds complexity in build process (a rule for each
object to add the required compiler option and pontentially more
rules for objects that call {INLINE,INTERNAL}_SYSCALL) and does not
allow the implementations to get all the possible debug/calltrack
information possible (used mainly in debuggers and performance
measurement tools).
This patch fixes it by adding an explicit configure check to see
if -fno-omit-frame-pointer is set and to act accordingly (set or
not OPTIMIZE_FOR_GCC_5). The make rules is simplified and only
one is required: to add libc-do-syscall on loader due mmap
(which will be empty anyway for default build with
-fomit-frame-pointer).
Checked on i386-linux-gnu with GCC 6.2.1 with CFLAGS sets as
'-Os', '-O2 -fno-omit-frame-pointer', and '-O2 -fomit-frame-pointer'.
For '-Os' the testsuite issues described by BZ#19463 and BZ#15105
still applied.
It fixes BZ #21029, although it is marked as duplicated of #20729
(I reopened to track this cleanup).

This patch consolidates all Linux setrlimit and getrlimit on the default
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/{set,get}rlimit{64}.c. It contains two exceptions:
1. mips32 and mips64n32 which requires a versioned symbol for GLIBC 2.19
and higher due a broken RLIM64_INFINITY constant.
2. sparc32 does not define a compat symbol for getrlimit64 for old 2GB
limit. I am not sure if it is required, but a RLIM_INFINITY fix [1]
change its definition without adding a compat symbol. This patch does
not aim to address this possible issue, it follow current symbol
export.
The default implementation uses prlimit64 for 64 bit rlim_t ({set,get}rlimit64)
and if it fails with ENOSYS it fall back to {get, set}rlimit syscall. This
code path is only used on kernel older than 2.6.36 (basically now only x86)
and I avoid to user __ASSUME_PRLIMTI64 to simplify the implementation. Once
x86 moves to be on par with other architectures regarding minimum kernel
supported we can get rid of using old syscalls and default path.
A new type size define is added, __RLIM_T_MATCHES_RLIM64_T, where is set as
default for 64 bits ports. This allows the default implementation to avoid
{get,set}rlimit building and alias {get,set}rlimit64 to {get,set}rlimit.
Checked on x86_64, i386, armhf, aarch64, and powerpc64le. I also did a
sanity build plus check-abi on all other supported architectures.

With this change, we no longer add sysdep.o and similar objects which
are present in libc.a to other static libraries.
|
|
Static libraries can use the sysdep.o copy in libc.a without
a performance penalty. This results in a visible difference
if libpthread.a is relinked into a single object file (which
is needed to support libraries which check for the presence
of certain symbols to enable threading support, which generally
fails with static linking unless libpthread.a is relinked).

Only i386 implements epoll_pwait in assembly code withot cancellation
support. All other architectures implement epoll_pwait in epoll_pwait.c
with
int epoll_pwait (int epfd, struct epoll_event *events,
int maxevents, int timeout,
const sigset_t *set)
{
return SYSCALL_CANCEL (epoll_pwait, epfd, events, maxevents,
timeout, set, _NSIG / 8);
}
Although there is no test for epoll_pwait in glibc, since SYSCALL_CANCEL
works on i386 and epoll_pwait.c works for other architectures, it is
safe to assume that epoll_pwait.c with SYSCALL_CANCEL also works on
i386.

This patch removes i386 assembly implementation for mmap, mmap64,
semtimeop now that i386 have 6 argument syscall support from C code
and GCC 5 can inline syscalls with 6 arguments. We also compile mmap.c,
mmap64.c and semtimedop.c with -fomit-frame-pointer since %ebp may be
used to pass the 6th argument to syscall.
Fo sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/mmap.c, with -O2 -march=i686
-mtune=generic, GCC 5.2 now generates:

For ia32 PIC, the first thing of many syscalls does is to call
__x86.get_pc_thunk.reg to load PC into reg in case there is an error,
which is required for setting errno. In most cases, there are no
errors. But we still call __x86.get_pc_thunk.reg. This patch adds
INLINE_SYSCALL_ERROR_RETURN_VALUE so that i386 can optimize setting
errno by branching to the internal __syscall_error without PLT.
With i386 INLINE_SYSCALL_ERROR_RETURN_VALUE and i386 syscall inlining
optimization for GCC 5, for sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/fchmodat.c with

This patch removes the specialized i386 assembly implementations for
fallocate{64}, pselect, and sync_file_range now that i386 have
support for 6 argument syscalls.
|
|
With 6-argument system call support, the generic Linux implementations of
these system calls work, and there is no need for i386-specific versions.

lowlevellock-futex.h (bug 18138).
This patch follows the approach outlined in
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2015-03/msg00656.html> to
support six-argument syscalls from INTERNAL_SYSCALL for 32-bit x86,
making them call a function __libc_do_syscall that takes the syscall
number and three syscall arguments in the registers in which the
kernel expects them, along with a pointer to a structure containing
the other three arguments.
In turn, this allows the generic lowlevellock-futex.h to be used on
32-bit x86, so supporting lll_futex_timed_wait_bitset (and so allowing
FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME to be used in various cases, so fixing bug 18138
for 32-bit x86 and leaving hppa as the only architecture missing
lll_futex_timed_wait_bitset). The change to lowlevellock.h's
definition of SYS_futex is because the generic lowlevelloc-futex.h
ends up bringing in bits/syscall.h which defines SYS_futex to
__NR_futex, so resulting in redefinition errors. The revised
definition in lowlevellock.h is in line with what the x86_64 version
does.
__libc_do_syscall is only needed in libpthread at present (meaning
nothing special needs to be done to make it shared-only in most
libraries containing it, static in libc only, as on ARM).
Tested for 32-bit x86, with the glibc testsuite and with the test in
bug 18138. The failures seen
FAIL: nptl/tst-cleanupx4
FAIL: rt/tst-cpuclock2
are pre-existing.

from using the memcpy function in a file including obstack.h can
result.
