2021-05-21nptl: Remove unused __libc_pthread_init functionFlorian Weimer
Fixes commit 732139dabeda7ecce0d56200bc176251e759ccde ("Linux: Move __reclaim_stacks into the fork implementation in libc").
2021-05-10nptl: Export __libc_multiple_threads from libc as an internal symbolFlorian Weimer
This allows the elimination of the __libc_multiple_threads_ptr variable in libpthread and its initialization procedure. Tested-by: Carlos O'Donell <carlos@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Carlos O'Donell <carlos@redhat.com>
2021-04-21nptl: Remove remnants of the libc/libpthread forwarder interfaceFlorian Weimer
All previously forwarded functions are now implemented in libc. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>
2021-04-21nptl: Move pthread_once and __pthread_once into libcFlorian Weimer
And also the fork generation counter, __fork_generation. This eliminates the need for __fork_generation_pointer. call_once remains in libpthread and calls the exported __pthread_once symbol. pthread_once and __pthread_once have been moved using scripts/move-symbol-to-libc.py. 2021-03-29fork.h: replace with register-atfork.hSamuel Thibault
UNREGISTER_ATFORK is now defined for all ports in register-atfork.h, so most previous includes of fork.h actually only need register-atfork.h now, and cxa_finalize.c does not need an ifdef UNREGISTER_ATFORK any more. The nptl-specific fork generation counters can then go to pthreadP.h, and fork.h be removed. Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-gnu. Reviewed-by: Adhemerval Zanella <adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

I used these shell commands: ../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright (cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]") and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning: copyright statement not found" for each of 6694 files FOO. I then removed trailing white space from benchtests/bench-pthread-locks.c and iconvdata/tst-iconv-big5-hkscs-to-2ucs4.c, to work around this diagnostic from Savannah: remote: *** pre-commit check failed ... remote: *** error: lines with trailing whitespace found remote: error: hook declined to update refs/heads/master

2018-06-29libc: Extend __libc_freeres framework (Bug 23329).Carlos O'Donell
The __libc_freeres framework does not extend to non-libc.so objects. This causes problems in general for valgrind and mtrace detecting unfreed objects in both libdl.so and libpthread.so. This change is a pre-requisite to properly moving the malloc hooks out of malloc since such a move now requires precise accounting of all allocated data before destructors are run. This commit adds a proper hook in libc.so.6 for both libdl.so and for libpthread.so, this ensures that shm-directory.c which uses freeit () to free memory is called properly. We also remove the nptl_freeres hook and fall back to using weak-ref-and-check idiom for a loaded libpthread.so, thus making this process similar for all DSOs. Lastly we follow best practice and use explicit free calls for both libdl.so and libpthread.so instead of the generic hook process which has undefined order. Tested on x86_64 with no regressions. 2015-10-20Convert miscellaneous function definitions to prototype style.Joseph Myers
This patch converts various miscellaneous functions definitions in glibc, found with grep and not covered by my previous scripted conversions, from old-style K&R to prototype-style. These changes were made manually. This is not necessarily exhaustive as formatting variants may have prevented my grep from finding some such definitions. Regarding the changes to files from GMP, they may originally have been omitted when removing __STDC__ conditionals because of the files coming from another package, but (a) GMP no longer has __STDC__ conditionals there anyway and (b) we don't try to keep these files verbatim in sync with GMP (and there are licensing differences), so making the change to them in glibc seems reasonable. Tested for x86_64 and x86 (testsuite - this patch affects files containing assertions). * debug/fortify_fail.c (__fortify_fail): Convert to prototype-style function definition. 2015-09-08Move bits/libc-lock.h and bits/libc-lockP.h out of bits/ (bug 14912).Joseph Myers
It was noted in <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2012-09/msg00305.html> that the bits/*.h naming scheme should only be used for installed headers. This patch renames bits/libc-lock.h to plain libc-lock.h and bits/libc-lockP.h to plain libc-lockP.h to follow that convention. Note that I don't know where libc-lockP.h comes from for Hurd (the Hurd libc-lock.h includes libc-lockP.h, but the only libc-lockP.h in the glibc source tree is for NPTL) - some unmerged patch? - but I updated the #include in the Hurd libc-lock.h anyway. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite, and that installed stripped shared libraries are unchanged by the patch). [BZ #14912] * bits/libc-lock.h: Move to ... * sysdeps/generic/libc-lock.h: ...here.
