2020-02-14Add a generic scalb implementationTulio Magno Quites Machado Filho
This is a preparatory patch to enable building a _Float128 variant to ease reuse when building a _Float128 variant to alias this long double only symbol. Notably, stubs are added where missing to the native _Float128 sysdep dir to prevent building these newly templated variants created inside the build directories. Also noteworthy are the changes around LIBM_SVID_COMPAT. These changes are not intuitive. The templated version is only enabled when !LIBM_SVID_COMPAT, and the compat version is predicated entirely on LIBM_SVID_COMPAT. Thus, exactly one is stubbed out entirely when building. The nldbl scalb compat files are updated to account for this. Likewise, fixup the reuse of m68k's e_scalb{f,l}.c to include it's override of e_scalb.c. Otherwise, the search path finds the templated copy in the build directory. This could be futher simplified by providing an overridden template, but I lack the hardware to verify.
2020-01-03Add libm_alias_finite for _finite symbolsWilco Dijkstra
This patch adds a new macro, libm_alias_finite, to define all _finite symbol. It sets all _finite symbol as compat symbol based on its first version (obtained from the definition at built generated first-versions.h). The <fn>f128_finite symbols were introduced in GLIBC 2.26 and so need special treatment in code that is shared between long double and float128. It is done by adding a list, similar to internal symbol redifinition, on sysdeps/ieee754/float128/float128_private.h. Alpha also needs some tricky changes to ensure we still emit 2 compat symbols for sqrt(f). Passes buildmanyglibc. 2018-09-14Use rint functions not __rint functions in glibc libm.Joseph Myers
Continuing the move to use, within libm, public names for libm functions that can be inlined as built-in functions on many architectures, this patch moves calls to __rint functions to call the corresponding rint names instead, with asm redirection to __rint when the calls are not inlined. The x86_64 math_private.h is removed as no longer useful after this patch. This patch is relative to a tree with my floor patch <https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-09/msg00148.html> applied, and much the same considerations arise regarding possibly replacing an IFUNC call with a direct inline expansion. 2016-08-04Do not call __nan in scalb functions.Joseph Myers
When libm functions return a NaN: if it is for NaN input, it should be computed from that input (e.g. adding it to itself), so that payloads are propagated and signaling NaNs quieted, while if it is for non-NaN input, it should be produced by a computation such as (x - x) / (x - x), which raises "invalid" at the same time as producing an appropriate NaN, so avoiding any need for a call to feraiseexcept. Various libm functions, however, call __nan ("") (or __nanf or __nanl) to determine the NaN to return, together with using feraiseexcept (FE_INVALID) to raise the exception. sysdeps/generic/math_private.h has an optimization for those functions with constant "" argument so this doesn't actually involve a call to the __nan function, but it is still not the preferred approach for producing NaNs. (The optimized code also always uses the NAN macro, i.e. produces a default NaN for float converted to whatever the target type is, and on some architectures that may not be the same as the preferred default NaN for double or long double.) This patch fixes the scalb functions to use the conventional method of generating NaNs and raising "invalid" with an appropriate computation. (Most instances of this issue are in the complex functions, where it can more readily be fixed once they have been made type-generic and so only a third as many places need fixing. Some of the complex functions use __nan ("") + __nan (""), where the addition serves no purpose whatsoever.) Tested for x86_64 and x86. * math/e_scalb.c: Do not include <fenv.h>. 2014-12-30Fix libm feraiseexcept namespace (bug 17723).Joseph Myers
Various C90 and UNIX98 libm functions call feraiseexcept, which is not in those standards. This causes linknamespace test failures - except on x86 / x86_64, where feraiseexcept is inline (for the relevant constant arguments) in bits/fenv.h. This patch fixes this by making those functions call __feraiseexcept instead. All changes are applied to all architectures rather than considering the possibility that some might not be needed in some cases (e.g. x86) as it seems most maintainable to keep architectures consistent. Where __feraiseexcept does not exist, it is added, with feraiseexcept made a weak alias; where it is a strong alias, it is made weak. libm_hidden_def / libm_hidden_proto are used with __feraiseexcept (this might in some cases improve code generation for existing calls to __feraiseexcept in some code on some architectures). Where there are dummy feraiseexcept macros (on architectures without floating-point exceptions support, to avoid compile errors from references to undefined FE_* macros), corresponding dummy __feraiseexcept macros are added. And on x86, to ensure __feraiseexcept calls still get inlined, the inline function in bits/fenv.h is refactored so that most of it can be reused in an inline __feraiseexcept in a separate include/bits/fenv.h. Calls are changed in C90/UNIX98 functions, but generally not in functions missing from those standards. They are also changed in libc_fe* functions (on the basis that those might be used in any libm function), and in feupdateenv (on the same basis - may be used, via default libc_*, in any libm function - of course feupdateenv will need changing to __feupdateenv in a subsequent patch to make that fully namespace-clean). No __feraiseexcept is added corresponding to the feraiseexcept in powerpc bits/fenvinline.h, because that macro definition is conditional on !defined __NO_MATH_INLINES, and glibc libm is built with -D__NO_MATH_INLINES, so changing internal calls to use __feraiseexcept should make no difference. Tested for x86_64 (testsuite; the only change in disassembly of installed shared libraries is a slight code reordering in clog10, of no apparent significance). Also tested for MIPS, where (in the configuration tested) it eliminates math.h linknamespace failures for n32 and n64 (some for o32 remain because of other issues). 2014-03-29Fix scalb spurious "invalid" exceptions (bug 16770).Joseph Myers
This patch fixes bug 16770, spurious "invalid" exceptions from scalb when testing whether the second argument is an integer, by inserting appropriate range checks to determine whether a cast to int is safe. (Note that invalid_fn is a function that handles both nonintegers and large integers, distinguishing them reliably using functions such as __rint; note also that there are no issues with scalb needing to avoid spurious "inexact" exceptions - it's an old-POSIX XSI function, not a standard C function bound to an IEEE 754 operation - although the return value is still fully determined.)
